Major General Christopher Owens, USMC, Ret.
Major General Chris Owens will talk about his role in Marine Aviation, including helicopter and V-22 Osprey operations on the San Antonio class littoral ships such as the USS Portland LPD27.
Chris joined the Marine Corps after graduating from Portland State University, was commissioned in 1982 and became a naval aviator flying AH-1 (Cobra) helicopters. He has logged over 4,000 flight hours in a variety of aircraft types.
2 star Gen. Owens will also talk about the F35B STOVL Marine aircraft.
Chris attended USMC Command and Staff College, USMC War College, and the School of Advanced Warfighting; he also commanded a squadron, air group, air wing and brigade and served in Somalia and Iraq.
In 2013, after promotion to Major General, he assumed command of US Marine Corps Forces Korea, with concurrent duties as head of strategy, plans and policy at United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and US Forces Korea.
His final military posting was Director of Expeditionary Warfare for the Chief of Naval Operations. Upon retirement from the military he and his wife Rita moved to West Linn, Oregon. Gen. Owens is involved in Portland Navy League activities including the commissioning of the USS Portland LPD27 in Portland on April 21, 2018.
