Arlo Gatchel is a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer Electronics Technician Submarines. He joined the Navy in 1969 and retired in 1991. He will tell us about the history of the USS Oregon(BB3) and the new USS Oregon(SSN793) being built in Groton, CT, that will be Commissioned in Fall or Winter of 2020. The boat was christened on October 5th this year. The Navy League is a non-profit organization through the Port Council of the U.S. Navy league, the same people who commissioned the USS Portland in April of 2018. They are raising funds to support the crew/USS Oregon for the events, ceremonies, and functions the Navy intends to conduct for the commissioning. A small part is paid for by the Navy and the rest must be funded by the commissioning committee. Enjoy his photos of the USS Oregon and from the christening. He just returned from spending six days in Groton for the christening. The image above is the crest/seal from the USS Oregon(SSN793). It was made up by the crew and has a lot of Oregon ties and symbolism.

Thanks to Jake Jacobs for inviting Arlo.
