Flight Profile #58 Week #3 Steve Bateman CFII, OPA president

About this event

Preparing for a successful Flight Review
In this safety seminar, we will look at the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to Flight Reviews (FRs) and especially regarding preparation, which sets the foundation for success.  By using a few recent examples, we will revisit the importance and the value of the FR when taken seriously, and the consequences when it isn’t.

We’ll then look at some tried and tested ways to properly prepare for your flight review, in terms of knowledge, risk management and practical skills.  By the way, I’m a firm believer in using scenarios both for training and during reviews, so expect to do more than just “plan the flight and fly the plan"!

Stephen (Steve) Bateman owns and operates Chocks Away Aviation, based in Prineville, Oregon, specializing in transition training and realistic and meaningful flight reviews.

Steve is an active Certified Flight Instructor, a FAASTeam Lead Safety Representative, President of the Oregon Plots Association, and Vice President of EAA Chapter 617 (Prineville, Oregon).

Each year beginning in 1968 Columbia Aviation Association conducted Flight Profile and invited CAA members and non-members to brush up their aeronautical knowledge and flying skills through three sessions of ground school and a flight with a CFI. This is all sponsored by Columbia Aviation Association.

CAA Flight Profile is open to all members and non-members at no additional cost

Ground school sessions are conducted on three Thursday Night dinner beginning April 23rd and are followed by a two-hour Flight Check held on Saturday May 9, 2026, departing from the CAA clubhouse on Aurora State Airport.  CAA's Member CFI’s contribute their time to fly with members and non-members to evaluate skills and to share knowledge and experience.

Flight Check reservation sheet available during the Ground School evenings
