The Secret War Over Laos: The Air War Against the Ho Chi Minh Trail - Peter Young
About this event
The Secret War Over Laos: The Air War Against the Ho Chi Minh Trail

Beginning in 1959, the Ho Chi Minh Trail developed into an enormous logistical network running from North Vietnam through officially neutral Laos to the battlefields of South Vietnam. Over the course of the war, more than two million combat troops and laborers and nearly two million tons of war materiel moved along the Trail. American aircrews were given the extraordinarily difficult task of finding and interdicting that flow of troops, weapons and supplies.
For Columbia Aviation Association's September 3 program, Vietnam veteran Peter Adams Young will take us inside this little-known air campaign from the perspective of someone who flew it.
A 1967 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Peter earned his wings as a Naval Flight Officer and trained as a bombardier/navigator aboard the U.S. Navy's A-6A Intruder all-weather attack aircraft. During three deployments to Yankee Station, he flew 97 combat missions over Laos and North Vietnam.
Peter will share his firsthand perspective on the challenges, risks and costs of the clandestine air war fought over the Ho Chi Minh Trail, offering CAA members a rare opportunity to hear this chapter of Vietnam aviation history directly from one of the aircrew members who experienced it.
