2024 Social Chairperson: Heidi Hogan (Clopton)

The founding members of CAA truly believed that “Flying is Fun.” We continue to support that belief. Our social activities are designed to keep the fun in flying and encourage the comradery among our members, spouses and guests.

Our weekly Thursday dinner programs begin with a happy hour that provides time for “hangar flying” before dinner, sharing conversation with members over a dinner followed by an entertaining and informative aviation-themed program. The presentations include member personal experiences, presentations by representatives of our governing agencies, military experiences and commercial aviation developments. Three programs in April involve ground school topics for the Flight Profile.

In addition to the regular Thursday dinner get-togethers, the club holds Saturday dinners that provide the opportunity for spouses to join the fun. Each January includes the Kick-Off Dinner put on by the new board where the fly-outs for the coming year are announced and described.

Summer is fun time and time for the annual picnic held at Stark’s Twin Oaks airpark graciously hosted by members Bob and Betty Stark. The picnic includes a wide assortment of barbequed meat and fish, salads galore (including Betty’s special bean salad), fruit, pies, ice cream, and of course, an array of cold drink options.

The annual Christmas Party is a festive affair with the club decorated in holiday form. The affair usually includes a band providing the opportunity for members to show their stuff on the dance floor. Often, the party includes an auction of interesting items donated by club members. It is also an occasion for thanking board and committee members for their hard work during the year.

Spring and Fall provide the opportunity for Saturday evening get-togethers with various interesting themes developed by the social committee (aka The Fun Squad). Past event themes include South Seas, Flamingo Fling, Cinco de Mayo, Fall at the Farm, CAAbaret, Fall Tailgater, Chili Cookoff and Bingo Bonanza. The Bar-B-Que area behind the club house that looks out on the apron behind the airport tower also provides dinner options when the weather is good.
