Join us this Thursday as CAA member John Storey, CFI, CFII, draws from his experience as a former regional airline pilot and Plane & Mission Commander in the U.S. Navy flying the Lockheed P-3 Orion, walking us through key considerations often overlooked in pre-departure planning.
From subtle red flags to real-world scenarios, John will share practical insights and proven strategies to help you recognize risks and make smarter go/no-go decisions—before you’re barreling down the runway.
Don’t wait until something goes wrong to start thinking about it. Plan for the problems before they happen.
After earning a Computer Science degree in college, John Storey joined the US Navy where he became a Plane and Mission Commander on the Lockheed P3 Orion and deployed to interesting places like Adak, Alaska, Cubi Point, Philippines and the Persian Gulf. After departing the Navy pattern, John flew for a few years with a regional, northeastern airline in the Saab SF-340, before parking the plane for a career in the IT industry and a family.
Each year Columbia Aviation Association conducts Flight Profile and invites CAA members and non-members to brush up their aeronautical knowledge and flying skills through three sessions of ground school and a flight with a CFI. This is all sponsored by CAA with no additional cost to participants.
CAA Flight Profile is open to all members and non-members at no additional cost
Ground school sessions are conducted on three Thursday Night dinner programs beginning April 24th and are followed by a two-hour Flight Check held on Saturday May 10, 2025, departing from the CAA clubhouse on Aurora State Airport. CAA's Member CFI’s contribute their time to fly with members and non-members to to evaluate skills and to share knowledge and experience.
